Parts of a cover letter

A cover letter has various parts but broadly it can be divided into the following:

  • Introduction:
  • A good introduction is crucial to make a good first impression, it is a starter of your cover letter and it should be catchy or attractive. You can start with who you are and the purpose of your writing. Why you’re interested in applying for this job or position. Show them your impressive background.

Tell them how you get to know about the company and what are your dreams to achieve etc. tell them why you're suitable for this job or position. You're not here for story writing so it should be crisp and on to the point.

  • Body:
  • The body of the cover letter allows you to successfully articulate the entirety of your professional journey and aspirations. This is the section in which you’re telling the recruiter which position you are vying. Why you are perfect for this job and why they should call you for further process.

Basically in this paragraph, you’re selling yourself, so you should show that you’re a luxurious product and how can you help in benefiting the company's goals and can become a very important asset for the company.

Show your skillset and past experience. Don't serve everything in one plate, include only those experiences which make you desirable. You should clearly state the purpose of your letter. Tell how your education and past experience prepared or helped you to fulfil the requirement of this position.

TIP: Use action words and try to neglect the overuse pronouns “I”. Be compatible in formatting.

  • Conclusion
  • Write an impactful conclusion to end on a pleasant note. This paragraph should sound very pleasant and not harsh. You should thank your employer for their time and remuneration. Use very heavy synonyms like: Sincerely, With best regards, Best, Thank you for your consideration, Respectfully, etc. don't stretch this part very much, be clear and concise.

When you are writing a cover letter for a job you should always use proper margin for a professional look. the perfect margins should be approximately 1 inch all around. The left and right margin should be set at 1 inch and the top and bottom margins should also be set at 1 inch.

Although having an appropriate length is crucial while penning a cover letter, its formatting is much more important. Using proper margins is like giving a proper boundary to a house so that it looks pleasant, one should align their text to the left; this is how most likely every document is aligned proper margin will make the cover letter and CV more readable and eye-catchy.
